Holotype female of Heterothele longipalpis, described as Diplura longipalpis. Misidentified as H. gabonensis by Pocock (1900) and lost in that synonymy until 2026.

Pocock (1900) treated the species as Heterothele gabonensis, a misidentification, and the name disappeared into that synonymy. Gallon & Sherwood (2026) examined the holotype female (ZMB 2980) and revalidated it, at the same time formally combining it into Heterothele for the first time — stat. rev. et comb. nov.
