    Pérez-Miles et al. (1996) examined the type in Paris and, accepting Raven's (1985) synonymy of Holothele with Scopelobates, moved Holothele out of the Theraphosinae to the Ischnocolinae (incertae sedis): Scopelobates lacks the subfamily's synapomorphies.
