Collection months of 7 adult male specimen records, against the rainfall where they live
Of 7 adult males, 1 of 7 (14%) fall in the six wettest months, and 6 of 7 (86%) in the six warmest. Collections peak in October. The warmer half of the year is much the closer fit here.
Mean monthly rainfall and temperature 2001–2020 near where these males were collected, Indonesia. MERRA-2 via NASA POWER, for a grid cell averaging 0 m. Wet and dry seasons, from the rainfall at the locality itself.
Etymology
The generic name Aspinochilus (masculine) refers to the lack of tibial spination, which distinguishes the type species from other genera within this subfamily, and to the close relationship with the genus Phormingochilus. The specific epithet rufus refers to the distinctive red color of the body, especially in females.
