Etymology
The generic name Aspinochilus (masculine) refers to the lack of tibial spination, which distinguishes the type species from other genera within this subfamily, and to the close relationship with the genus Phormingochilus. The specific epithet rufus refers to the distinctive red color of the body, especially in females.
