Holotype female of Amazonius subcaeruleus, described from an exuvia. Never actually deposited at the Senckenberg museum as the original description claimed, and considered lost (Hüsser 2018).
Taxonomic History
- Described by Bauer & Antonelli (1997) from the exuvia of a pet-trade animal whose only locality was "Ecuador", and held a nomen dubium by Hüsser (2018). The holotype was never actually deposited at the Senckenberg museum as the original description claimed, and is considered lost.
- 2025 Peñaherrera-R. et al. (2025) transferred the species to Amazonius on the ovate maxillary lyra with slender bristles of all adults examined, and matched modern Ecuadorian and Colombian material to it through the lateral lobes visible in Bauer & Antonelli's spermathecae figure. Pseudoclamoris burgessi Hüsser, 2018 — Amazonius burgessi since 2022 — is a junior synonym: spermathecal and palpal bulb morphology and morphometry overlap completely, and live colouration and femur IV setae match.
- Venezuelan specimens attributed to A. burgessi by Cifuentes & Bertani (2022) are not confirmed as this species; they lie ~950 km from the nearest known locality in a different biogeographic region and may be undescribed.
