Mean monthly rainfall and temperature 2001–2020 near the type locality, Mexico: Veracruz, Mpio. San Andrés Tuxtla. MERRA-2 via NASA POWER, for a grid cell averaging 440 m. Wet and dry seasons, from the rainfall at the locality itself.
Etymology
the specific name is a patronym in honor of Víctor H. Jiménez Arcos, a Mexican herpetologist who saw and collected the first specimen of the species.

Taxonomic History
- 2022 Cifuentes & Bertani (2022) synonymised Psalmopoeus copanensis, P. sandersoni and P. petenensis Gabriel & Sherwood, 2020 with this species, and recorded the first Guatemalan specimen, extending the range beyond Mexico.
- 2025 Peñaherrera-R. et al. (2025) reversed all three 2022 synonymies made in this species' favour: P. copanensis, P. sandersoni and P. petenensis are restored.
