   Longhorn & Gabriel (2019) argue the placement is wrong, without formally moving it. The male palpal bulb has a strongly serrated subapical keel with sharp, disto-ventrally directed denticulations, which is the Crassicrus condition; in every Citharacanthus they examined with a described male, including the generic type C. longipes, that keel is weak and any denticulation takes the form of much smaller rounded granules. Citharacanthus is further characterised by a distally attenuate, upwardly flexed embolus with two closely parallel prolateral keels forming a narrow groove, which this species does not have.
3. Against a transfer, its strongly developed prolateral tegular heel is unlike the rounded proximal tegulum in the diagnosis of Crassicrus. The authors therefore suggest it may be the sister group of Crassicrus rather than a member of it, a reading also indicated by the molecular data of Turner et al. (2018), and flag the genus as needing revision.
