Type Locality: Colombia, Narino, Barbacoas, km. 25 road Tumaco- Pasto, Reserva Natural Biotopo Selva Humeda, 600 masl

Mean monthly rainfall and temperature 2001–2020 near the type locality. MERRA-2 via NASA POWER, for a grid cell averaging 228 m. Wet and dry seasons, from the rainfall at the locality itself.
Etymology
The specific epithet is in honor of the music and tradition of the Southern Pacific of Colombia. The name is a noun in genitive and refers to one of the most emblematic percussion instruments of the region, the “marimba.”
Specimen Records (3)
Holotype male of Cymbiapophysa marimbai. Re-examined by Peñaherrera-R. (2025), who confirmed the retrolateral cymbial apophysis overlooked in the original description and noted that the left palpal bulb of this specimen is missing.

Taxonomic History
- 2018 Proshapalopus marimbai Perafán & Valencia-Cuéllar, 2018, transferred to Cymbiapophysa by Sherwood, Gabriel, Brescovit & Lucas (2021) on palpal bulb morphology, without access to the type material. Galleti-Lima et al. (2023) questioned that placement. Peñaherrera-R. (2025) examined the holotype male directly and confirmed the transfer: the species does possess a weakly developed, rounded retrolateral cymbial apophysis, a character overlooked in the original description.
