Mean monthly rainfall and temperature 2001–2020 near where these males were collected, Argentina. MERRA-2 via NASA POWER, for a grid cell averaging 1355 m. Southern hemisphere — seasons are inverted, so December is midsummer.

Etymology

A noun in apposition from Mapudungun, meaning "family" or "lineage" — for the author's family, and in recognition of the Mapuche people who historically inhabited the region where the species was found.

Described from two specimens that had been in the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales for decades: the holotype male was collected in April 1996 and the paratype female in January 1979.
