Type Locality: Road to Quebrada Blanca, Pica, Tamarugal province, Tarapacá region, Chile, 4269 m a.s.l.
Adult Male Activity
Collection months of 1 adult male specimen record, against the rainfall where they live
Mean monthly rainfall and temperature 2001–2020 near where these males were collected, Chile. MERRA-2 via NASA POWER, for a grid cell averaging 3626 m. Wet and dry seasons, from the rainfall at the locality itself.
Etymology
This species is named in honor of Walter Sielfeld Kowald, professor and mentor of the first author, who has contributed to the training of biologists in the Tarapacá region for decades.

Holotype male of Euathlus walteri; found under a stone without any apparent shelter.
Paratype female of Euathlus walteri; the northernmost record of the species.
Paratype female of Euathlus walteri; found in spring inside a tubular burrow under a stone. Spermathecae and habitus figured.

Taxonomic History
- First record of Euathlus from the Tarapacá region and the northernmost limit of the genus in Chile. Published in the Gayana 88 (2) issue, which carries a 2024 cover date; the authority year follows the World Spider Catalog.
