Type Locality: MEXICO: Oaxaca, 1 km north of Llano de las Flores, Sierra de Juárez
Etymology
The specific name is a noun in apposition in honour of the Zapotecas, the people inhabiting the central region of Oaxaca in ancient Mesoamerica. They call themselves Ben’Zaa, which means cloud people.
