MNHN AR 4780 ♂ Type Ecuador
Syntype series of Pamphobeteus augusti: 4 males and 1 juvenile, catalogued 4528 "Pamphobeteus augusti E.S. Quito (Cousin)". Dupérré & Tapia (2025) figure one of the males and note it differs from the Mindo male Sherwood et al. (2022) published under this name, which may therefore be misidentified.
Taxonomic History
- 1888 Lasiodora augusti Simon, 1888
- 2025 Dupérré & Tapia (2025) figured one of the four male syntypes (MNHN AR 4780) for the first time, and found it differs from the Mindo male Sherwood et al. (2022) published under this name — the syntype's bulb has a longer, narrower middle section and a steeply inclined prolateral superior keel. They suggest the Mindo specimen may be a misidentification.
- They also note that Simon's (1889) record from "Ambabo" is a misspelling of Ambato, in Tungurahua province about 115 km south of Quito.
