Etymology

A noun in apposition, invariable, from Kichwa mythology: Supay is the god of the underworld and lives underground, and the holotype was found in a hole.

Holotype female of Thrixopelma supay; a paratype female (ECFN 7638) shares the same data. No coordinates are published for the type locality.

Taxonomic History

  2. Described into Thrixopelma one week after Sherwood et al. (2025) moved eleven of that genus's thirteen species into Ewok, Warmiru and Crypticarachne. The two papers were in press simultaneously — this one was accepted on 15 October and published on 21 November, Sherwood et al. on 14 November — and neither cites the other. Of the species this diagnosis compares with, T. aymara is now Ewok aymara; only T. choquequirao is still in Thrixopelma. The placement is left as published, since nobody has revised it.
