Taxonomic History
- 1960 Melloleitaoina crassifemur Gerschman & Schiapelli, 1960
- 2025 Joel & Ferretti (2025) described the female for the first time, from a specimen collected at La Quena in May 1983 by P. Goloboff and held at the MACN since. She resembles the female of T. yupanquii in spermathecae with very short receptacles and large granules, but has more oval and larger apical chambers and lacks spiniform setae on the promargin of coxae III and IV. Known from northern Salta province, near the Jujuy border.
- 1996 Pérez-Miles et al. (1996) restored Melloleitaoina as a valid genus, taking its type species out of Dryptopelma, and figured the type male's bulb.
