The genus is separated from all other Ischnocolinae by a striped abdomen, a low labial cuspule count (20–22), and clavate trichobothria on the tarsi in two parallel rows running half the tarsus length. Males further have a palpal bulb with two keels, a ventral metatarsal tumescence on leg I, and a cymbium with long erect setae; females have large subquadrate spermathecal receptacles on a short wide duct that points laterally and upwards, carrying two or three rounded lobes.

Live males are black on the carapace and chelicerae with bronze setae along the carapace margins and around the striae, dark grey legs with bronze setae on coxa and trochanter, and a dark grey abdomen with bronze mottling.

Distribution and natural history. Known only from the Cusco department of south-eastern Peru, between 3200 and 3800 m. The type locality carries montane grasses, scattered low shrubs and planted pine or eucalyptus. Females and immatures of both sexes build thin, loosely webbed burrows with no distinct entrance, under angular stones among the roots of grasses and plants in inter-Andean valleys. Females found in October carried a single detached white egg sac 7–15 mm across.

Mean annual temperature in the region is 11–14 °C, with a rainy season from December to April and a cooler dry season from May to November. Mature males were found in January, April and August — unlike most theraphosids, which mature and wander for a short window at the start of the rains. The authors read this as opportunistic rather than seasonal breeding: maturing whenever conditions allow.
