Holotype male of Selenocosmia xinhuaensis Zhu & Zhang, 2008, now Khantao xinhuaensis. Re-examined by Yu et al. (2026), who transferred the species to Khantao.
KYUARA#1850 ♀ China
The first known female of Khantao xinhuaensis, raised and matured in captivity in May 2025, and photographed alive.
Taxonomic History
- Khantao xinhuaensis (Zhu & Zhang, 2008) — originally Selenocosmia xinhuaensis, described from a single male from Xinhua Village, Tengchong, Yunnan.
- Transferred to Khantao by Yu et al. (2026), who examined the holotype and found it to share the genus's single row of harp-like lyra setae and single row of thread-like strikers. The female was unknown until this paper; one was collected at Tongbiguan in 2024 and matured in captivity in May 2025.
