Type of Selenocosmia stalkeri, described by Hirst (1907); re-examined by Briggs, Foley & Cook (2024) when removing the species from synonymy. No collection date or catalogue number is given in that paper.
Taxonomic History
- Described by Hirst (1907) from material collected by Wilfred Stalker at Alexandria Station, Northern Territory. Synonymised with Selenocosmia stirlingi Hogg, 1901 by Main (1985), who gave no reason for the action. Removed from synonymy and recognised as a distinct species by Briggs, Foley & Cook (2024), on the basis of a distinctly shaped lyra pattern figured in the original description that occurs in no other described Australian species, and the failure of S. stalkeri and S. stirlingi to form a monophyletic lineage in any of their phylogenetic datasets.
