The type of Arboriticus spinosissimus. Long labelled as the holotype of Pamphobeteus holophaeus, but Mello-Leitao gave that holotype the number MZUSP 129-A, and this specimen bears every character he described for E. spinosissimus. Borges et al. (2025) conclude it is the presumed-lost type of spinosissimus. Collection date unrecorded; 1923 is the year of description.
Taxonomic History
- 1923 Eupalaestrus spinosissimus Mello-Leitão, 1923, described from a female. Bertani (2001) removed it from nomen dubium and treated Eupalaestrus tarsicrassus Bücherl, 1947 and Pamphobeteus holophaeus Mello-Leitão, 1923 as its junior synonyms. Borges, Abegg, Paladini & Bertani (2025) transferred the species to their new genus Arboriticus and dissolved both synonymies: A. tarsicrassus is a valid species of Arboriticus, and holophaeus belongs to Vitalius.
