Taxonomic History
- 1842 Mygale anthracina C. L. Koch, 1842 Montes de Oca & Pérez-Miles (2009) keyed the Uruguayan population as Grammostola mollicoma (Ausserer, 1875), a name subsequently synonymised with this species.
- 1996 Pérez-Miles et al. (1996), making Grammostola a junior synonym of Phrixotrichus, figured a female from Uruguay as Phrixotrichus mollicoma. Grammostola has since been restored.
