Etymology

A noun in apposition honouring the Diaguita people, an indigenous group native to present-day northern Chile and north-western Argentina, especially the Calchaquí Valleys, whose descendants still live in both countries.

Type species of Vitriemboli by original designation. Described from a single male collected at La Quebradita in July 1949 and held at the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales ever since.
