Collection months of 1 adult male specimen record, against the rainfall where they live
Mean monthly rainfall and temperature 2001–2020 near where these males were collected, Ecuador. MERRA-2 via NASA POWER, for a grid cell averaging 168 m. Wet and dry seasons, from the rainfall at the locality itself.
Etymology
A noun in apposition from the type locality, la reserva Jardín de los Sueños, one of the last remaining foothill Chocó forests, for its work preserving what is left of Ecuador's biodiversity.
Specimen Records (2)
Holotype male of Yunka suenos, and so the name-bearing type of the genus (QCAZ). Total length 23.90 mm.
Paratype female of Yunka suenos, hand collected at the reserve the species is named for.
Taxonomic History
- 2026 Yunka suenos Dupérré & Tapia, 2026 — type species of Yunka Dupérré & Tapia, 2026.
- The genus name is Kichwa, yunka, "from the coastal region", for where its three species live: the western lowlands and foothills of Ecuador, from 203 to 655 m. It is feminine.
